- "No deer in Reine is Velvet’s equal in the practice of Winter Magic, in form nor in function. She is perfection personified, supremacy symbolized. Those who dare challenge her will be left with nothing but a cold shoulder."

Velvet (full name Velvet Hoofstrongdottr), is the champion of the deerfolk from The Tundra. She serves as one of the main characters of the game and is part of the original roster, providing keepaway type of zoning gameplay.
Appearance
Velvet is a reindeer with a light brown coat and pale yellow patches on her snout, tail, and neck fluff. Her eyes are an icy light blue, while her antlers and hooves are teal. Each of her ears have dark brown edges, with dark pink insides, as well as dark brown eye shadow on her eyelids.
Personality
Velvet is a narcissistic type of character, being completely full of herself and putting her looks and floof over other things. If it wasn't for the big ego, one would say she's the definition of perfection. She won't hesitate to throw sharp and rude comments, and often thinks lower of others. However, she's willing to contribute herself as the champion to save Foenum, because she believes it takes only the best one to do so.
Story
Book of Lore
After the Council's call, a grand tournament was held in Reine City to determine their selected champion fit for the role. At first Velvet didn't look intimidating, and her failure at the strength competitions only reinforced the doubt of the crowd, although she didn't pay mind to it. It was the last showdown between her and Blitzen where she showed her agility and winter magic skills, which made her victorious.

Chapter 1
Part II: I Thought I'd Never See Ze Day
Velvet arrives as Arizona is examining the ancient carving. She serves as the end boss of Part II with three phases.
Phase 1: Velvet has her neutral move set and acts similarly to how the AI controls her (Depending on the difficulty). She also has low HP.
Phase 2: Velvet keeps her neutral move set, but the AI difficultly increases and her magic wind is blowing infinitely. Her magic bar fills up faster than usual and When her HP is at half, we move on to phase 3.
Phase 3: Velvet drops her move set and uses a different version of her level 1 super. This time around, she's in the Ice cyclone and uses three attacks to hit you, one low attack you can jump over, one mid attack you can either block or crouch under and a high attack you have to block.
If you get close enough to her, she will try to hit you away from her, but if you're fast enough, score the biggest combo you can before she uses her Ice cyclone again.
Abilities and Fighting Style
Velvet is a zoner whose move set is designed to keep opponents at a distance. One of her primary attacks is to generate simple icicles on the ground and in the air. They can be used for pressuring her opponents and can be shot at different angles and speeds. Snowballs are also important assets of Velvet's zoning and are used to maintain combos, but they take one stock of magic. For sneakier options, Velvet's Ice Eruption move can catch anyone off guard at certain distances. Her Magic Wind is another magic-using move that allows her to push her opponents away or bring them in closer for different setups.
Velvet's super, Ice Cyclone, has the ability to draw the opponent close to the cyclone and away from her. The followup move, Frostbite, restores three stocks of magic and causes the opponent's movements to temporarily slow down ofr 5 seconds if connected successfully.

Trivia
- Velvet is based off of the Fighting is Magic character Rarity from My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.
- Both characters share a lot of similarities in their move sets, in both function and design: normal attacks, eruptions and projectile specials, and magic system.
- Rarity's 214 (Quarter Circle Backwards) specials would correspond with the gems that would fly towards her, in contrast to 236 (Quarter Circle Forward) that would make gems fly away from her. Instead of this, Velvet was given three different Shatter commands.
- Rarity's Magic Eruption was slow and travelled accross the entire screen. Velvet's Magic Ice Eruption is short-ranged but fast.
- Velvet gained a slide move, and ability to pull in and push away the opponent with wind.
- Besides both being "posh" archetype, Velvet and Rarity consider their looks above everything else, as well as speak in fake accents to make them sound more of an upper class.
- Unlike Rarity, who needs to work for her world-wide title, Velvet is already raised in a high status and rich family, which is probably the cause of her being spoiled. Velvet's narcissism and vanity know no borders, and she doesn't show some sort of empathy towards others. Rarity's primal interests are fashion and making outfits, while Velvet's are being the best of her kind and keeping her floof always good. To add more, Velvet has Winter Magic abilities - casting and controlling snow and ice, and using them to battle her opponents.
- Originally, Velvet was going to be based off of Fighting is Magic's Rainbow Dash. She would have been a flying reindeer with a moveset similar aerial battle style, but Mane6 decided that Velvet was a better fit for Rarity's gameplay and created Tianhuo as Rainbow's successor instead.
- Both characters share a lot of similarities in their move sets, in both function and design: normal attacks, eruptions and projectile specials, and magic system.
- Velvet and Arizona were the first characters publicly introduced.
- She's named after tissue found on deer's still growing antlers.
- Along with Paprika, Velvet is the second oldest character in the cast by maturity of her species lifespan (first being Tianhuo), and third oldest in the cast by raw age (after Tianhuo and Oleander respectfully).
- Converting into human years, Velvet is what could be considered past 25 years old.
- Originally, Velvet's magic would recharge faster the farther she was from her opponent, but the mechanic was dropped for being too restrictive.
- Velvet speaks with a heavy accent, pronouncing "th" as "z" and "w" with "v". None of the other deerfolk encountered in Story Mode speak with this accent, including her father and cousin. Her accent visibly drops when she gets angrier mid-match.
- Just like the rest of the Deerfolk, Velvet eats golden oats to restore Winter Magic power. When she does so, her antlers begin to sparkle: in her idle animation it can be seen that her antlers are glittering.
- Velvet is not only skilled to use Winter Magic in battle but to make sculptures. It can especially be seen during her moves where she casts ice figures of buff deer men and a big ice head of herself. In the Level 3 Super, she puts opponent into an ice block, before carving a statue with a muscular body.
- One of the Velvet's recovery lines "Lutefisk!" is a reference to a Nordic dish of the same name.
- Velvet, being daughter of Stronghoof Hoofstrong, uses patronymic in the same way it's formed in Norse languages: the ending -dottr means "daughter of".
- It's stated that she'd use matronymic instead, but something has happened to her mother.[1]
